Dehydrated skin, acne and sun spots
How to take care of our skin after the summer?
Our skin needs care all year round, but after the summer months we must pay special attention to recover it.
In these months, our skin becomes more fragile and sensitive due to all the aggressions to which it has been exposed, such as heat, sun, sea water or chlorine in the pool.
All of these factors cause symptoms and damage that need to be looked after. Although sun exposure can have benefits for our health such as helping us to better synthesize vitamin D which prevents aging, and improve certain skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. If the exposure has not been 100% responsible and we have also taken vacations from our daily beauty routine, we will be able to observe different symptoms of deterioration that we should be taking care of.
Why is my skin dehydrated?
One of the most common symptoms, which hardly anyone gets rid of after the summer is dehydration. We must not confuse dehydrated skin with dry skin. In the same way, we must know that oily skin can also be dehydrated.
All skin can be affected by dehydration. When a skin becomes dehydrated it means that it has lost its normal water level and its protective layer.
How do we know if our skin is dehydrated?
The main characteristics to know if your skin is dehydrated is to observe if it appears smoother and tighter. If it has lost its shine and is duller or some small wrinkles have appeared, which were not before, in the area of the nose or chin.
You can see by yourself, if it feels rough, then it is dehydrated for sure. To recover from dehydrated skin, you must return to the normal water levels of the epidermis. For this, you should drink a minimum of 1.5L of water and maintain a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
It is highly advisable to also use creams that contain hyaluronic acid, since it is undoubtedly the ideal reserve to retain water. Hyaluronic acid molecules are capable of holding up to 1,000 times their weight in water, which will help you recover your skin.
Why do spots appear on our skin?
Our skin can be affected by the famous sun spots.
After the summer, we can see on our face how dark spots of brown tone have appeared. They are usually in the forehead, cheeks and mustache area. These spots are produced by excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Our body, to defend itself from these rays, generates an excess of melanin and creates these more visible areas. For this reason, sun spots appeared on areas where pigment cells, melanocytes, have a higher activity caused by this protection.
How to remove sun spots
The prevention of spots is essential, but once they have already appeared, it is recommended to use depigmenting treatments such as lasers or the use of creams with active ingredients such as Bioretinol that inhibit the formation of melanin. Like the Bioretinol Night Cream for skin over 30 years old or the Post Acne Serum, a serum for all ages.
What is photoaging and how to improve our skin
Photoaging is also another of the symptoms that can be accentuated in the hottest months and sun exposure. Photoaging is the culprit for the acceleration of the natural aging process of our skin due to solar radiation. This radiation is made up of UVA, UVB, IR and visible light, and is much higher in summer. These rays cause changes in our epidermis. The collagen and elastin fibers are altered, reducing the firmness and elasticity of our skin. Wrinkles gain depth and the skin is less smooth.
The key to preventing photoaging would be to choose a good sunscreen that protects you from these rays. And above all, use it responsibly every day. Even on cold or cloudy days.
Finally, one of the symptoms that some skin experiences after the summer is solar acne. Some people are affected by the combination of heat, humidity and high solar intensity that cause breakouts. It is common that during the summer months, we can see how our acne has improved. This is due to the effect of the sun, which has an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and drying action. However, its effect is a double-edged sword since its enhancement is not real.
During sun exposure, the layer where the dead cells are found thickens and as a result the pores are more clogged. This causes that after summer a rebound effect is observed due to the production of more sebum that manifests itself in the reappearance of acne. In addition, other factors such as environmental changes and work stress also make it worse. The use of products with Nicotinamide is very important, such as our STOP ACNE serum to reinforce the skin barrier and reverse the damage caused by UV rays in the case of acne.
